What is Coaching?
In essence, Professional Coaching is very similar to Sport Coaching – it’s about helping you to get to the top of your game, whatever that game may be. A Coach will help you increase your self- knowledge and self-awareness, take responsibility for your life – therefore taking control of it, and help you increase your self-belief by focusing on future possibilities rather than past mistakes. Using effective questioning and active listening skills, Coaching provides the catalyst to unlock your true potential. You will learn and move forwards through the practical application of tried and tested strategies that will help you access the best of who you are and take action to get what you want out of life. Professional Coaching is founded upon the empowering belief that within each unique individual lays the potential to do more, be more and have more. A Coach will help you:

What do people work on with a Coach?
Coaching helps you to identify what you want from your work and life, and then make it a reality. The list of areas that people work on with a Professional Coach is virtually limitless, however there is always one common theme – they are areas that the Client wants to change or improve. Our Coaches are not experts on your life, they help tap into your own wisdom and have mastered the art and science of efficient and effective personal improvement. They will help you discover key ideas and strategies to move forward in the unique challenges that you face and create the successful life you desire.
Do the Coach and Client need to meet face-to-face?
Some Clients prefer to meet their Coach face-to-face, at least for an initial session. This said, many Clients never meet their Coach and Coaching is equally effective when conducted exclusively by telephone. For some areas of work, for example Coaching on presentation and communication skills, face-to-face Coaching is required.
Does Coaching over the telephone really work?
Yes. All our Coaches are trained to hear what you are communicating by words, pauses, tone, silences and even by what is not said. Logistically a telephone session with a Coach can take place wherever you are in the world. This means that you are not limited by geography or business travel requirements in working with a Coach best suited to your needs. Telephone Coaching is very powerful and as a result, sessions tend to be shorter than face-to-face interactions.
How frequently do the Coaching sessions take place and how long does each session last?
The frequency of your Coaching sessions will be agreed between you and your Coach when designing your Coaching Programme. Some of our Clients find it valuable to speak with their Coach every week and some every month. During the initial Coaching period (usually 6 months) we recommend that sessions take place on a weekly or fortnightly basis as a minimum.
Coaching sessions usually vary in length from 30 to 60 minutes (but can be as long as 2 hours) depending on the type of work undertaken. The length of your sessions will be discussed and agreed prior to the start of your Coaching Programme.
What is the structure of a Coaching session?
Once you have made the decision to sign up for one of our Coaching Programmes you will usually receive a welcome letter from your Coach outlining the Coaching process. This will generally include completing a brief questionnaire to provide your Coach with an overview of your programme goals and your current situation. This is not an analysis, it is simply designed to provide your Coach with some background prior to your appointment. How do I know if Coaching can help me?
Coaching is a change catalyst and a support mechanism to help you see those changes through. If you keep doing what you have always done, you will keep getting what you have always gotten. If you want something different to happen, then you must do something different and a Coach will help make that shift.
Ask yourself, do you begin each day with an eager enthusiasm for the day ahead? Do you have a clear plan of where you are and where you want to be one week, one month, one year from now? Are you happy in all areas of your life, career, relationships, personal growth, lifestyle, health, finance?

I am already doing great in my life. Why would I need a Coach?
You may not need a Coach. But working with a Coach can still help you take your life from great to outstanding: Are you doing what you most enjoy? Are you tolerating anything? Is life easy? Are you going to be financially independent within the next 5, 10, 15 years? Do you have what you most want? Are you happy? Are you settling for less? People often need to expect more out of their lives. Working with a Coach can help you take another leap forwards.
What is the role of a Coach?
The role of the Coach is greatly determined by the individual needs of the Client. You will design the way that you work with your Coach during your initial session, to ensure that you create a partnership that will be effective in helping you make the improvements that you want. Your Coach may adopt many roles (motivator, mentor, business consultant, trainer, friend) and will act as a sounding board, someone you can speak freely and comfortably with. Someone who is there to listen to you and focus on helping you make your life the way you want it to be. They will hear what you really have to say and provide feedback. Your Coach will become a partner with whom you can create new structures in life to deliver what you want and who will hold you accountable for what you say that you will (or won’t) do. Your Coach will be committed to helping you fulfil your individual needs and aspirations – and in today’s world, people like that are hard to find. Professional Coaches are like Coaches in many other fields, except they don’t have their own agendas. They are there to help and support you, to help you make life the fulfilling and rewarding endeavour it deserves to be.
What results can I expect from working with a Coach?
There are many benefits that our Clients attribute to Coaching, including an improved quality of life, greater success and a higher appreciation of the pleasures in life. They often also experience a higher level of self-awareness and greater self-confidence, a more balanced life, smarter goal setting and lower stress levels! The results you will get from Coaching, as with any worthwhile endeavour in life, are largely determined by the effort you put in. That said, the majority of our Clients are inspired to put in that effort, and achieve the results they have set out for themselves.
Yes, the content of every Coaching session is completely confidential between the Coach and the Client. In the context of corporate/executive Coaching a company may request a method of reporting and feedback, but this is agreed in advance, open and known by all parties. All personal details of the Coaching still remain confidential, however, three-way evaluations can take place between the Coachee, Coach and a Company Representative where appropriate.
What happens if the Coach and the Client do not get on?
You may can contact our Director of Coaching at any time and discuss confidentially, any issues they may be facing. The Coach/Client relationship is fundamental to the effectiveness of the Coaching and we will do everything possible to ensure that this fit is correct and the relationship valuable.
How long is a typical Coaching relationship?
This depends on each individual situation. We generally require a minimum initial Coaching period of at least 6 months. Many of our Clients have worked with us for considerable periods of time, some use us as a ‘drop-in’ service accessing Coaching on an ‘as needs’ basis, and some work with us for a period of time, take a break and then return when faced with a new challenge or growth opportunity. To achieve a significant amount of long-term change we recommend a Coaching period of between 6-12 months.
Is Coaching regulated?
Yes, the International Coach Federation (link: http://www.Coachfederation.org) is the professional association for personal and business Coaches that seeks to preserve the integrity of Coaching around the globe. They set rigorous standards globally, and are responsible for formulating and monitoring competencies for Coaches.
Who hires a Coach and why?
In short, anyone who desires some kind of change/progression in their life/work. People often hire a Coach because:
They know there is more ‘out there’ for them, and they want to discover how to get it
They want to grow, have more confidence and understand themselves and others better
They want it easier, they are fed up with struggling and want to find a better way

Why is Coaching becoming so popular?
Coaching is becoming popular for several reasons:
Many people are fed up with doing what they “should” do and are ready to do something special and meaningful for the rest of their lives. The problem is that many people can’t see what that ‘something’ is, or if they can, they can’t see a way to how to bring it into their life/work. A Coach can help them do both.
People are realising how simple it can be to accomplish something that several years ago might have felt out of reach or like a dream. A Coach is not a miracle worker (well, they are, sometimes) but a Coach does have a large tool kit to help the ‘Big Idea’ become a reality. Fortunately, people now have the time and resources to invest in themselves to create this kind of growth/change.
Spirituality. If you’ve tracked the phenomenal success of James Redfield’s Celestine Prophecy on the NY Times best-seller list, then you will get a sense of just how many people are willing to look at, and consider, the notion of spirituality. Wow! Many Coaches are spiritually based – even the ones who Coach large corporations such as IBM and AT&T. The western world is getting spiritual quickly (a working definition of spirituality? “How connected you are with yourself and others”). The Coach helps the Clients to tune in better to themselves and others.
What is the difference between Coaching and Therapy or Counselling?
In simple terms it is a matter of focus. Both Therapy and Counselling generally focus on past experiences and deal with healing past emotional hurts in order to help the Client move forward. Coaching is a proactive approach which draws a line under those experiences and focuses on where the Client is now and where they want to be in the future.
If it becomes apparent during Coaching that a therapeutic approach would aid the Client, a Coach will offer support in identifying and sourcing the most suitable resource. It is possible to have both a Coach and be in therapy – they are distinct and focus on different issues.
Coaching is an awareness of the past, with a focus on the future. “The future is a great place to get interested in – on account of the fact that this is where you are going to be spending most of your time.” (Paul McKenna)
How is Coaching different from Consulting?
Consultancy is usually dependent on industry or task specific knowledge. A Consultant will generally assess a situation and then advise the Client on what action to take, whereas a Coach will ask the Client to define the situation and help them to access their own knowledge, creativity and initiative in finding the solution. This approach helps to create ownership of the situation, facilitate greater learning and commitment in taking action. A Coach usually works with the Client to support them whilst they implement changes, develop new skills, and helps to ensure that goals are achieved. Coaching creates deeper learning that creates transformational change as opposed to just passing on information and advice.
Can I hire a Coach just for a short-term, special project?
Yes. Many Clients hire a Coach to help them accomplish specific goals or projects. Many also keep working with the Coach once the goal/project is complete as they find that they have new, more interesting things to accomplish.
How long must I commit if I start working with a Coach?
We usually ask for a minimum six month commitment, but will usually let you stop immediately if the Coaching is not working for you. The initial duration of the Coaching Programme will be agreed either before or during the first session.
What does it cost to hire a Coach?
As with most industries the rates for Coaching vary significantly. Rates for individual personal Coaching can range from £50 per session to upwards of £500 per session. Fees for Corporate/Executive Coaching programs are substantially higher, often running from £450 up to £6,000 per month

How do you select your Coaches?
All our of Coaches are of the highest calibre and are personally chosen by Move Beyond’s founder, Kyle Newman. They are all trained by an ICF (International Coach Federation) accredited training school, are Members of the ICF, and have extensive experience in their specialist field in addition to their Coaching training. We also work closely with our Clients and actively encourage feedback by the use of questionnaires, assessments and testimonials to ensure that we maintain the highest standards. Each of our Coaches ‘walks their talk’ by modelling continuous growth and development in themselves in order to inspire and create the same for their Clients.
